    Is the flow in cross flow fans Radial in and Radially out?

    • @SimonBradwell
      @SimonBradwell 2 месяца назад

      Hi, this is a good question. Although the xflow impellers are radial in nature, the airflow through a cross flow is straight through. As such it could be considered axial. However the "off" air flow direction is perpendicular to the impeller shaft and therefore technically the direction is radial. The difference being in xflow fans is the air intake is also perpendicular to the impeller shaft. I trust this helps. Simon

      @@SimonBradwell Thanks to reply but unable to understand. When the profile of the vanes are same. Centrifugal force is the cause of suction. Centrifugal force is used to expel the things. Suction side is same as exit of air. Then why the suction occurs? When inlet and outlet is of same nature? Why not air is exited at inlet of this fan?

    • @SimonBradwell
      @SimonBradwell 2 месяца назад

      @@EAR.Pakistan good points - why does suction occur! Indeed! This is due to the design of the housing. Negative pressure is created inside the wheel and this is enough to create flow through the wheel in a laminar manner. This behaviour is only seen in these fans.

    I have one of these on my fireplace insert…ohf…it’s so loud it kills the ambiance. Is there not a better solution? Can’t you get rid of the transformer hum? Pardon the critique but that loud whirring noise sounds like an animal is dying in my living room. Isn’t there a toroidal equivalent cross flow fan?

    • @SimonBradwell
      @SimonBradwell 9 месяцев назад

      Hi Bruin, thanks for your comments. Yes, these fans are typical for domestic gas fore places to provide hot air into your room. They are chosen because of their width and because of their low noise. Speed control can however affect this noise and typically a tapped motor is best i.e. a motor that has wires out at three different windings which then gives three separate speeds. Voltage transformers should not provide excessive noise, but I would suggest that other technology is being used as voltage transformers may be expensive for this application. The manufacture may be changing voltage by wave chopping that may cause mechanical vibrations in the motor and drive systems... I would suggest either using EC motor products (very low noise speed control) or products with tapped windings as above. Always happy to help! Please let us know if we can help further.

    • @bruin4Christ
      @bruin4Christ 9 месяцев назад

      @@SimonBradwell Thanks for the quick reply! The transformer isn’t very loud by itself, but it sits between two iron panels of stove, that act as a sound board and amplify the hum. I do have three wires with variable speed, the lowest speed is still noticeable. I suppose the shape of the blades could be modified to reduce noise and optimize efficiency (as toroidal fans have done) If you know any replacement parts I could buy, please recommend! Also, what would a fan be like if you made it forward-curved but with the same number, shape, and size of blades as the typical backward ones (if it's going to be overloading even with the little narrow, shallow blades anyway)? And what if you made a backward one that was vice versa?

    • @SimonBradwell

      Hi, impeller designs that give performance data between these two types are called mixed flow and the impeller blade designs and take off angles are defined within standards - ISO 12759 I think, but not sure off the top of my head….cheers

      @@SimonBradwell: But it sounds like FC-cent. fans with big blades and BC-cent. fans with small blades don't really exist in the market, so I was wondering what the general reasoning behind that is. Would you be able to describe that generally?

  • @HelloKittyFanMan
    @HelloKittyFanMan 10 месяцев назад

    If you're saying that backward-curved fans blow "more air" per revolution of the comparably sized forward-curved centrifugal fan, and that they're more forgiving and more efficient, then why not just use them in all applications that might call for any centrifugal fan, but adjust the speed to match the need (haha, nice rhyme)?

      @@SimonBradwell: I live in the USA. But vacuum cleaners have been using this backward-curved style for ages, so it's not as if this were a new style of blade that was just barely developed. However, vacuum cleaners are NOISY! So when in a volute, is that the reason BCC fans aren't used more often? I mean... swamp coolers and furnaces are still using FCC fans all the time. What supposed advantage do they have?

  • @HelloKittyFanMan
    @HelloKittyFanMan 10 месяцев назад

    I was hoping you were going to turn these on for show. With them being shaped that way, do they sound like vacuum cleaner fans? And if so, then why would anyone want them running throughout the day, like just standing a vacuum cleaner around and turning it on and leaving it, rather than trying to find a way to make the different sort of pressure from a forward-curved fan ("gerbil-cage fan") work so that all they have is white noise instead of the intense whine of basically a "vacuum cleaner" running for so long per use?

    • @SimonBradwell
      @SimonBradwell 10 месяцев назад

      Hi, thanks for your questions. I'll answer them all here. Typically these fans are used in HVAC running 24/7 and provide great static pressure capabilities than forward curve fans. They are also non overloading which means the power does not spike at low pressures and overload the motor as happens with forward curve fans. Typically the static efficiency of these fans are also 30-50% better. Regarding guarding all fans should be guarded to EN13857 and this is the responsibility of the equipment manufacturer. Often guards as well as interlocks are used. I hope this helps with your inquiries. Thanks.

    • @HelloKittyFanMan
      @HelloKittyFanMan 10 месяцев назад

      Thanks for your reply, @@SimonBradwell, with the few things that it did answer. But did it go over anything about how much these do or don't sound like vacuum cleaners because of their shape as opposed to the other style? And did it go over why you did not show the inlets or run them here? And did it go over the type of encasement these are used in even though you say they're not really in a housing? Also, why would these systems be used 24/7 even in places where a building isn't even being used for many hours of the day and night? Why not have a period where it's completely shut down until a little catch-up period before business the next day?

  • @HelloKittyFanMan

    Can u show me the normal direction of impeller turning , ? Also which direction does the air flow ? Say Im facing in front of the motor, will the impeller turn CW OR CCW? As for directions. Will air hit the motor side first and then leave the impeller , or first come in contact with motor then leave the impeller ?

      Hi Sunny, the direction of rotation depends on the manufacturer. Air is taken into the "eye" of the impeller, goes over the motor and passes out of all sections of the rotating impeller at right angles to the direction of the incoming air. To tell the direction of rotation; when the blade rotates, the air passes through the blades such that the air is pushed out by the external facing surface of the blade. Does this help? Thanks, Simon

    This motor is so expensive..

    • @SimonBradwell
      @SimonBradwell 3 года назад

      Hi, it's true. EC products are more expensive that traditional motor and impeller combinations. In addition however they have an integrated speed controller and their life time costs will be much lower. Please contact us at sales@au.ebmpapst.com and we can help with some more details. Thank you for commenting. Simon

    How does the static pressure performance compare to axial fans? I was thinking about how these could be used with computers, which often use mostly axial fans (except for very compact systems like laptops)

    • @SimonBradwell
      @SimonBradwell 3 года назад

      Hi, the static performance is much lower. Racks and electronics systems have increased in component density requiring higher back pressure. Our new fans for these applications are typically higher flow and higher static. Here is some info: www.ebmpapst.com/au/en/industries/ict-electronics-industry.html. Thanks for your question. Simon

    What surprises me the most about these fans is the air inlet style. They are basically elongated blower fans, but what I find insane about this design is that with blower fans there is a large opening as an air inlet and with this design that doesn't exist and the air inlet is just another side of the blade construction!

    • @SimonBradwell
      @SimonBradwell 3 года назад

      Hi Andrew, there is nothing like this range of products. Like all fans, a negative /positive pressure imbalance is needed and this is achieved with the design of the inlet and the outlet. A vortex is created within the barrel that allows the flow of air. Cheers, Simon

      Hi Mahesh, the driving 0-10V has to have a voltage applied. This can be achieved by using voltage output from the product. Please send me an email sales@ebmpapst.com.au and marked for my attention and we will provide the details required. Best wishes.

    Hi Mr.Bradwell, Thank you for sharing such great video. Im also working for the Chinese Axial fan factory. We have brought many samples from EBM, they are best axial fan has been even made. Just wondering why Australia has different carton package for the axial fan than other countries, it seems much more expensive than the fan sold in other countries.
